    Overview:

The four-year English curriculum includes one level of freshmen English and both regular and honors classes for sophomores, juniors, and seniors. In all levels of English, students read a combination of contemporary and classic works—short stories, essays, novels, poetry, dramas, and nonfiction. All English classes are using Pre-Advanced Placement and Advanced Placement learning strategies in order to prepare and qualify students in English at both the high school and college level. Students mastering English as an additional language may be placed in ELL (English Language Learner) English Class. Those who fail a class need to repeat the class at summer school, evening school, or through some option other than repeating at Benson during the day. Students can graduate only if they have four LA credits. A grade of "C" or better in English classes are expected for college admission.
