    Benson Mathematics Department

The Mathematics Program is designed to meet the individual needs of the students. Courses range from Transition Math through Calculus. Honors classes for Geometry through Calculus are available with teacher recommendation. Two years (two units) of math are required for high school graduation; however, most Benson students take math all four years. All math courses beyond Algebra 1A-1B count toward state college and university entrance requirements. Most colleges and universities require at least Advanced Algebra for entrance.

The Class of 2009 and beyond needs three credits of math to graduate. Colleges expect a C or better in Algebra 1-2, Geometry, Algebra 3-4 or higher. Because advanced math classes build on math foundations learned in Algebra 1-2 and Geometry, students who fail a math class may have to repeat it at summer school to move on to the next level.

It is further the policy of the Benson High School Mathematics Department that students do not take math classes for first time credit at NIGHT SCHOOL or SUMMER SCHOOL. Night school and Summer math courses are designed specifically for students who are repeating a math class.
