    HOSA: Health Occupations Students of America


    health occ girlHealth Occupations is a program offered at Benson that allows students to gain skills and attain experience that can be used in an actual work place. Students get hands on experience in their classrooms to apply at their clinical sites. They go to various work sites to work side by side with professionals. This allows students to network and become familiar with what could be their future occupation. Many Benson graduates that majored in HOSA have moved on to pursue satisfying careers in the health field.



    Dental
           The Dental program in Benson is a part of the Health Occupation major. Students take this course during their junior year rotation and can pick it as their major as a senior as a year long course. In this class dental and dental assisting work is taught. Students do various volunteer works at different dental sites. This class helps prepares students for a possible future in the dental health field.

    Nursing Assistant

    healthoccNursing Assistant is a part of the Health Occupation major. This class is taken during their junior year rotation and can be chosen as a year long course in their senior year. Theory and skill development in clinical and administrative medical office management are presented in the classroom. This course continues with human development from conception to death with an introduction to psychology. This helps provide student with a strong foundation to start their career in the nursing field.

    Medical Assistant
           Medical Assistant is one of the rotational career pathways of Health Occupations during junior year and can be chosen as a main major for senior year. Medical Assistant involves developing skills in clinical and administrative medical office management while students can gain entry-level skills and earn college credits. Community service projects are incorporated into the curriculum as opportunities for students to gain an overview of the career and make career choices based on their experience. In-school coursework and field experience outside of school will improve basic understanding of the career while gaining hands-on experience.
