COURSE DESCTRIPTION:

Students who major in communications are able to let their creativity come alive in their works. In freshman and sophomore years, students begin learning how to use programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Flash, and Indesign, and learn some of the basics of HTML. They also learn how to use digital cameras and elements of taking a picture. However, things really come alive once they reach their junior and senior years in communications. In Photography, juniors begin by using Pentax K1000 black and white film cameras and learning things such as developing film and using a darkroom, advanced editing techniques in Photoshop, and several creative aspects of photography itself. By senior year, students begin using Canon D70 digital cameras, and branch to learning about advanced elements of design in photography, studio photography, and even portfolio building. Once students reach Web Design and Desktop Publishing, they begin learning how to use Powerpoint, Adobe Dreamweaver and Fireworks, and design aspects in Adobe Indesign. A lot of students begin helping on working on the Benson Polytechnic Website by their senior year. In video, students start learning how to film and edit videos along with planning them during their junior year with fun assignments like making a music video, recreating a movie scene, and sometimes helping make promotional videos for the majors at Benson. During their senior year, students fine-tune their knowledge of Final Cut Pro and go deeper into the field of video filming and editing.
